Enviromental Impact
We Americans put everything in our garbage cans--food waste, dirty diapers, pet fecal matter, paints solvents, and other chemicals--all of which can leave trace amounts in our refuse containers. Once those containers get dirty enough, we wash them out and that now very-contaminated water often flows out into the street. Storm water then picks up and transports these untreated pollutants into our rivers, lakes, and streams. From there, these pollutants can flow back into our drinking water system, harming aquatic and animal life along the way.
